As soon as I started researching the BA Procurement Graduate Programme I quickly began to appreciate the sheer scale of the organisation. They offered both the opportunity to work in a fast-paced corporate environment and sponsorship through a three year CIPS course, which for me was the perfect combination.

The programme has given me the chance to work across departments and gain experience in buying different services and goods. I started in commercial procurement, buying hotels for cabin crew, onboard catering and airport user charges. This first placement enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of where Procurement’s role fits in dealing with new routes and operational complexities. Following this, I went on to work in areas that really broadened my mind as I discovered a whole remit of aircraft related products that I had never even considered existed.

My most rewarding project so far was probably the first tender that I was fully accountable for. The contract was for global packaging for aircraft parts, which meant I had a lot to learn. It was hard work but once we’d completed everything in time and met all the stakeholders’ needs, I felt immensely satisfied. And it gave me confidence in my own abilities and prepared me for the next challenge.

In fact the whole programme, along with the support of my mentor has given me more confidence. From the beginning my senior manager has been there to discuss my experiences, aspirations and any difficulties that I may be facing. It’s been a real help, and for me it’s what makes BA’s graduate programme so special.
